Shift your perspective.

Recently, while having dinner with a dear friend in Nagoya, Japan, I had a powerful realization about perspective.

I’ve lived in Nagoya for 15 years, and for a long time, I struggled with the intense, sweet-and-spicy flavors of Nagoya cuisine. It felt like the elements were simply mixed, which didn’t resonate with me.

But during our dinner at Akakara, local food, something clicked.✨

I realized I’d been limiting my understanding by viewing it as a “mix.” In fact, Nagoya’s unique flavors are a beautiful example of fusion – a meeting of East and West Japan, ancient and modern, creating something truly unique.

My perspective shift led me to reflect on how easily we can create boundaries with our own viewpoints. Seeing things simply as “mixed” can lead to a sense of discord or separation. In contrast, seeing things as a “fusion” opens us up to acceptance and greater understanding.

As a public speaking performance coach and empowering speaker, I’m always exploring ways to connect with diverse audiences and create truly authentic communication. This experience has deepened my understanding of the power of perspective and the importance of embracing the beauty of unique and blended viewpoints.

How do you find opportunities to shift your perspective?
I’d love to hear your thoughts.
